It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

Parenting ADHD is hard - why do it alone?

Support Group for Parents of Kids/Teens with ADHD

One of the things I love about webinars is that people get to see they are not alone as others share their struggles. My last webinar really got me thinking about how important it is to have a village that supports you and gets what you are going through.

The families I work with, all face the challenges of parenting kids and teens with ADHD. These include emotional dysregulation, organizational issues, and academic issues among other things. We often talk about the importance of self-care and mainly having someone to talk to; a friend, spouse, or professional. It is important to create a village that will support you and your child in navigating life with ADHD.

Your village should have people that can offer you:

•         Knowledge about ADHD – based on research, data, and experience

•         Shared interests

•         No judgment listening

•         Empowerment and encouragement

•         A shoulder to cry on

In our post-Covid reality, it can be hard to find the right ADHD parenting support; it can be because we moved to a new city, started a new job, lost loved ones, or simply do not have the time or ability to get to a meeting. Getting individualized ADHD support can also be a financial strain that we cannot handle at the moment.

For all these reasons, I decided to open support groups for parents of kids and teens with ADHD. The meetings will be online (so no need for driving). It will be open for 5 households per meeting (so it is not crowded) and will be composed of the same people (so we can build real connections over time). It will be reasonably priced (30$ for morning meetings and 40$ for afternoon/evening meetings) so you don't have to break the bank. I will be there to offer my professional knowledge and guidance during the meetings (as a certified ADHD Parent Coach, ADHD-CE, M.Ed, a mom, and human being)

What will you get out of it?

•         Your own mini-village – a group of people that share your struggles and can understand what you are going through

•         A discrete, safe environment – meetings are not recorded and information stays within its members

•         A place to share your fears, struggles, and challenges parenting a child with ADHD

•         A place where you can share without judgment

•         An opportunity to vent and reduce stress and anxiety

•         Knowledge and understanding of what ADHD is and what techniques you can use to manage it

•         Getting feedback from other parents and learning from their experience

What do you need to give?

•         Your time and internet connection – commit to 1 hour a week (same day and hour every week) when you are fully engaged in your village

•         Your openness – share your life

•         Your ears and shoulder – listen without judgment and support your people

•         Money - 30$ for morning meetings and 40$ for afternoon/evening meetings
